Friday Backpack Meals
The Friday Backpack Meal Program ensures that students in food-insecure households receive small shelf-stable meals and snacks to take home each weekend. In the past, those items have included granola bars, microwavable pasta, juice, applesauce, and other snacks donated by local organizations. Although we may not be able to provide a complete meal, we do hope to ease the burden of weekend hunger for our students.
What to expect
Each week, a local organization drops off food bags in large storage bins placed to the right of our main stairwell. On Friday (or the last day of the week before a break), one or more JVE volunteers unpack the bins and distribute bags to each homeroom. Distribution normally takes 30–60 minutes. Although distribution can be done by one person, it is more fun with a friend!
